Quick answer
Clean your butt plug before and after each use with warm water and mild soap or a dedicated toy cleaner, then dry and store it in a cool, dry place away from other toys.
Why cleaning matters for anal toys
The anal area hosts more bacteria than other body parts, so proper cleaning prevents infections and keeps your toy safe for repeated use. Silicone and ABS plastic are non-porous materials that resist bacteria, but only if you clean them correctly. Vibrating plugs add an extra consideration: you must protect the electronic components from moisture damage.
Step-by-step butt plug cleaning routine
- Rinse immediately after use: Hold the plug under warm running water to remove surface debris. For vibrating models, keep water away from the battery compartment or charging port. Never submerge a non-waterproof vibrator; check the manual first.
- Wash with mild soap or toy cleaner: Apply a small amount of fragrance-free, antibacterial soap or a dedicated toy cleaner to your hands or a soft cloth. Gently scrub the entire surface, including any ridges or grooves. Rinse thoroughly until no soap residue remains. Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach or alcohol—they can degrade silicone over time.
- Dry completely before storing: Pat the plug dry with a clean, lint-free towel or let it air-dry on a clean surface. Moisture trapped in storage can breed bacteria or damage the motor in vibrating plugs. Store in a fabric pouch or separate compartment to prevent dust and contact with other toys.
